They say the number 5 is a milestone… sturdy, structural, a dominant chord. But 6?
Six is where the music opens up and six is what we are celebrating!
In classical theory, the Major Sixth is known as an "imperfect consonance." It is beautiful and pleasing to the ear, yet it feels incomplete. It is the sound of longing. It implies that the melody isn't finished, that it wants to climb higher.
That is where you come in.
To celebrate our 6th Anniversary, we are asking for a birthday gift. We are asking you to help us resolve the chord. We need our audience to provide the momentum that pushes us to the next measure.
Six is a development section!
For the last 2,190 days, SF Phil has been refining our ensemble. We’ve moved past the "prelude" phase. We aren't just playing the notes on the page anymore; we are shaping the phrase, finding our unique tone, and defining the acoustic footprint of this city.
We are turning 6, and we have officially found our sound.
But like that Major Sixth interval, we are currently suspended in a moment of beautiful potential. We are reaching for the octave—the resolution.
